Some weddings are loud from the very first moment. Others build quietly, and then break wide open on the dance floor. Megan and Chris's day at Carberry Tower was the second kind — and it's exactly why I love what I do.
This was the first time I've shot at Carberry Tower, and it was a beautiful backdrop: the old stone tower, the walled gardens, the woodland just beyond the lawns. But it was Megan and Chris's energy that made this day unforgettable, not just the setting.
From the moment I met Megan and Chris, it was clear this wasn't a couple who needed a big performance to show how they felt about each other. Their connection is quiet and deeply felt — the kind that shows up in small glances and held hands rather than grand gestures. It made for some of the most genuine, unguarded moments I've had the privilege of photographing.
That tenderness ran through the whole day, from the vows to the quieter moments in between, and it's exactly the kind of story I love telling through a documentary lens.
The couple's portrait session is often my favourite part of any wedding day, and with Megan and Chris, it was something special. We slipped away from the reception for a short walk around Carberry Tower's grounds, and away from the noise and the guest list, they softened into each other completely. No forced poses, no stiff smiles — just two people who clearly adore one another, given a few quiet minutes to feel it.
One of my favourite styling details of the day was the bridesmaid dresses — each one a different colour, different cut, chosen to suit the individual rather than matched to a single template. It gave the wedding party a relaxed, personal feel and added a beautiful wash of colour to every group shot. It's a trend I'm seeing more couples embrace, and Megan and Chris's bridesmaids proved exactly why it works so well in photographs: more personality, more texture, more life.
f the ceremony and portraits were tender and quiet, the reception was the opposite — in the best possible way. Megan completely let loose once the dancing started, and it was a joy to watch and photograph. There's something wonderful about capturing that shift across a wedding day: the same person who was quietly emotional during her vows, fully abandoned to the music a few hours later, surrounded by everyone she loves.
Those are the moments that make a wedding gallery feel complete — not just the posed portraits, but the real, unfiltered joy of the party.
